One thing you would notice as you take a look at our wedding package is that we offer engagement photos for no extra charge. The obvious thought would be that we just include the price of those photos in the wedding package. But this is not the case. They are in fact, not considered at all when creating our wedding packages. This is because we view these sessions as the most important thing we do. I know that sounds kind of weird so I wrote this blog to share a couple of reasons why.
Relationship is everything to us.
First and foremost, they allow us to get to know each of our couples and hear their story. It also allows our couples to get to know us and hear our story. We are not able to get the types of images we get unless we have developed a relationship we work with. Our engagement shoots often last several hours giving us plenty of opportunity for conversation and time to hang out when we are taking any photos. When we arrive the morning of a wedding, it’s more like seeing old friends then it is an employee showing up for a job. This allows us the ability to capture those intimate moments as we get there.
Having your photo taken is awkward at first, for everyone!
We do very little posing. Instead we try to create a space for our couples to be themselves and a moment that we can capture. Being comfortable in front of the camera isn’t natural for most people (including myself). But, over time it’s gets much easier and we love to get that awkwardness out of the way during an engagement shoot instead of during the wedding day. EVERY couple we’ve ever had leaves the engagement shoot feeling more comfortable in front of the camera then they were before the shoot. They even start to enjoy it! The process of getting to know our couples and watching each of them really open up to us in front of the camera is something I enjoy most about what we do.
So, what does a typical session like this this look like?.
Every experience is different. Our goal is to find a location or activity that has meaning to our couples. We find they are able to relax and be themselves much more easily in a space that is familiar. (We love shooting in a couple’s home!) We are also willing to travel in order to make our couples feel as comfortable as possible. Even as far as Tennessee!. While scheduling these sessions we try to allow for quite bit of time to spend together, usually an entire evening. As we like to say, creativity takes time. And, so does getting to know someone! Also, who doesn’t love engagement photos during a gorgeous sunset?
